I ve used window units in more side opening windows than up and down ones just due to bad luck with houses.
They work fine just get something to block the top of the window.

Over the past 6 years or so i have been using three of these lg 8000 btu unit.
So basically you are saying that a central air unit cycling on and off at 4500 watts for 24 hours is going to use more power than two window units drawing 1000 watts cycling on and off for 8 hours or so.
If it is a good quality unit and if it is well maintained and has a capable circuit to it with sound connections.

We just got an ac for the window as it s freaking hot without one and want to know how we can get it safely installed without screwing it into the frame.
Without knowing measurements my advice is one high btu window unit if the rooms connect or 2 smaller window units for each room and keep the thermostats realistic.

Also dont knock the power of a fan.
It seems like if i install the unit it will be resting a lot of weight on that one small strip in front which probably isn t a great idea.
