The real question is why would you. I ve used window units in more side opening windows than up and down ones just due to bad luck with houses. They work fine just get something to block the top of the window. I think you could cut some plywood to fit it.

So basically you are saying that a central air unit cycling on and off at 4500 watts for 24 hours is going to use more power than two window units drawing 1000 watts cycling on and off for 8 hours or so. Air conditioners just aren t built like they used to be. That being said if window units are not an option there are better units than others in the room air conditioner world. Also dont knock the power of a fan. It seems like if i install the unit it will be resting a lot of weight on that one small strip in front which probably isn t a great idea.
