Vertical grab bars are not yet covered in the ada guidelines however ansi specifies the dimensions shown in the diagram. For 3 and 4 year olds bars should be 18 20 inches from the floor for 5 to 8 year olds bars should be 20 25 inches and for 9 to 12 year olds grab bars should be 25 27 inches. A 42 inches 1065 mm minimum length grab bar is required on the side wall spaced a maximum of 12 inches 305 mm from the back wall and extending a minimum of 54 inches 1370 mm from the back wall at a height of 33 36 inches 840 915 mm.
